Exploration results
TransAfrika’s exploration activities are focused on generating drilling targets. An aerial survey conducted by TransAfrika in 2008 revealed the following findings:
- 450 artisanal workings on the TransAfrika permits, comprised of three main clusters:
- along the Luiko River;
- east of the Luiko River; and
- in the southern part of EP6061 and EP6297 at Mukera.
- 4 906 soil samples, 220 grab samples and 956 trench and channel samples analysed.
- Artisanal miners are mining hard rock ore on five of the prospects.
Permit 6062 (Minembwe Permit)
Four prospects are actively being explored
Rudabadaba
- Soil sampling reveals a soil anomaly covering 39 000m².
- In the southern part of the anomaly, gold in the soil reaches 2.34g/t.
- Exploratory trenching has unearthed a granitoid with narrow disjointed quartz veins and albite and magnetite alteration underlying the anomaly. Assay results from channel samples reflect grades up to 6g/t.
- Strong IP chargeability and resisitivity anomalies are interpreted as underlying the soil anomaly.
- Diamond drilling to test the soil anomaly at depth has commenced.
- Results are pending.
Biwoshi
- Gold is mined in a quartz vein by artisanal miners.
- Rock samples taken in underground workings returned up to 13g/t of gold.
Bengazima
- High-grade gold ore containing free gold and pyrite is mined by artisanal miners in a quartz breccia.
- The best assays reported from channel and grab samples are:
- 32.2g/t
- 23.7g/t
- 16.9g/t
- 10.9g/t
- IP survey shows patchy chargeability anomalies.
- Diamond drilling to test the soil anomaly at depth has commenced.
- Results are pending
Rugezi
- Known as an alluvial deposit.
- Grab samples taken by TransAfrika on a ferruginous quartz vein return gold values of 31.24g/t and 17g/t.
- IP survey depicted shallow but strong chargeability anomalies.
Permit 11534 (Luiko Permit)
- Artisanal gold mining is taking place on quartz veins bearing galena, chalcopyrite and pyrite.
- Several active working were indentified: Kaleke-Tolembo, Kenya, Kakangala, Bomane, Bigaragara and Namulombwe.
- Grab samples taken from quartz veins at Kaleke-Tolembo returned gold values of 24.8g/t and 6.58g/t.
- Soil sampling has been completed on all of the prospects.
- The soil sampling revealed an anomaly at Kaleke in excess of 50 000m², with the highest gold in soil value at 6 950ppb.
- A further soil anomaly at Bigaragara of about 16 000m², with the highest gold in soil value at 1 690ppb, has been identified.
